  Very interesting highway Landmark. I remember seeing this in the mid eighties, as someone pointed it out to me on a trip. I've taken every opportunity to further this observation whenever i can.
  
  No one seems to know when these got planted there. I believe I read that the pine had to be replaced due to 'health' of the old one sometime around 2007 [that is pure guess, but it was around that time]
  This point is vaguely around the midpoint of California, depending on how you measure it.
